The stick form factor is gaining popularity these days. There are countless media streamers that can be obtained in this form factor, all you need to do is to plug them into a display or television that has a HDMI port. Even though it wasn’t a new concept by any means, Intel decided to take it one step further and introduce the Compute Stick. Basically it’s a computer on a stick that you can now pre-order.

Everything the Compute Stick needs to function is packed inside it, only a power source is required as well as a HDMI port to plug it in.

The Intel Compute Stick has a Intel Atom quadcore processor with 2GB RAM, 32GB onboard storage, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and a USB 2.0 port.

Using the Intel Compute Stick you can instantly turn any display or television into a full-fledged PC that’s either powered by Windows 8.1 or Linux.

Major online retailers like Amazon and Newegg are now taking Intel Compute Stick pre-orders. The device is going to ship by the end of this month even though it was originally supposed to be released last month.

For $150 you can get a Compute Stick that’s powered by an official copy of Windows 8.1. The Linux version is officially priced at $89 though at some online retailers it is being sold for well over $100, it will be in your interests to shop around for the best possible price before placing a pre-order.
