Google Nexus 5X Officially Announced

After a good dose of pre-launch leaks, the Google Nexus 5X has been made official. Google has confirmed the hardware specs of the system, and here are the specs that Google was highlighting:

5.2” display (1080p), 2700 mAh battery capacity, Snapdragon 808 64-bit processor, 12 Megapixel main camera, Nexus Imprint fingerprint reader, USB Type C and a weight of 136g.

We have a link to a page full of specs at the end of this article, but this is what Google felt was important from a hardware standpoint.

At $379 (16GB and $429 for 32GB), this is pretty good hardware. When we played with the phone to see how its industrial design was, we felt that it was a nice, clean and solid design. Although Google has been driving the specifications and has the final world, LG is the company behind making it happen, and they have done a great job at it.

The Nexus 5X’s camera can capture 4K videos at 30FPS, but can shoot at up to 120FPS for slow motion shots, although at a lower resolution. A double-tap on the power button will wake the phone and automatically launch the camera app, a method that proved very convenient on the Galaxy S6.

This phone also has the Android Sensor HUB, which is a Remarketing of Qualcomm’s low-power module which is used to keep an eye at all times on the motion sensor, to “sense” if your phone is on a table or in your pocket, or to track your physical activities.

The nexus phones now feature their power controls and fingerprint sensors in the back, a design that LG Championed with the LG G2 (power only), and that is becoming increasingly popular – including in Huawei’s phones like the Mate 7 or the Honor 7. Google says that the fingerprint reader takes about 600ms (milliseconds) to read a fingerprint and that accuracy is high. Upon recognizing the owner’s print, the phone immediately unlocks itself.

The USB Type C port will ensure that users no longer need to worry about connecting “the right way” since it is reversible – that’s really handy when trying to connect in the dark. Of course, it supports fast charging, and Android M, the operating system loaded on this phone, will tell you if the phone is in fast-charging mode or not.
