Qualcomm today announced the launch of two new mid-range processors which will soon debut in a variety of mobile devices. These new chips seem quite robust on paper but it remains to be seen though if some OEM decides to go with them particularly following the PR nightmare that was the Snapdragon 810’s heat issues. Qualcomm’s new processors include Snapdragon 617 and Snapdragon 430.

Snapdragon 617 is going to be shipped to OEMs before the end of this year, it’s a 1.5GHz octacore processor with an X8 LTE model that allows for Cat 7 speeds up to 300Mbps down and 100Mbps up on mobile. There’s also support for dual Image Signal Processor for cameras that can go as high as 21 megapixels. It also features an Adreno 405 GPU.

On the other hand the Snapdragon 430 is scheduled to arrive in the second quarter of next year with Qualcomm saying that the chip is going to be “worth the wait.” It will bring 1080p full HD displays, dual ISPs for cameras up to 21 megapixel as well as support for Open GL ES3.1, OpenCL 2.0, Android Extension Pack.

Snapdragon 430 has an X6 LTE modem with Cat 4 speeds, a much more power efficient Adreno 505 graphics processor and a 1.2Ghz octacore CPU. Both processors are going to have support for Qualcomm’s new Quick Charge 3.0 technology.
