Android 6.0 Marshmallow Soak Test For Moto G (2014) Has Begun

moto-g-2014-review-2The original Moto G was launched in 2013 and according to a report earlier today, it looks like it will be getting an update to Android 5.1. However if you’re wondering whether it will eventually be upgraded to Android 6.0 Marshmallow, we suppose that’s anyone’s guess but the good news is that if you own the Moto G (2014), the update could be headed your way.

There have been user reports on Reddit and the XDA forums in which some lucky users are appearing to be receiving the update as part of a soak test. For those wondering what soak tests are, basically this is the final batch of testing that companies like Motorola usually does before officially pushing out the update to the rest of its customers.

Users for soak tests are chosen at random once they have signed up, so even if you have opted in it’s not a guarantee that you will get it. No word on how long the test will be conducted for until its release, but either way it does seem to be pretty encouraging and does hint at a possible release in the near future.

Of course the other issue here is that if you bought the phone from a carrier, there might need to be carrier approval ahead of the release, so that’s an additional delay for some users. In any case we’ll be keeping our eyes peeled for the release so check back with us in the near future for updates.
