Roland V1HD Video Mixer

roland-v1hdPlanned for a December release, Roland’s V-1HD is a 4-input / 1-output video mixing device that is compact and relatively affordable. It can handle up to four 1080p/1080i/720p video sources coming in different formats. Of course, all sources can be mixed, and simple video effects can even be added in real-time, such as picture-in-picture (PiP) or titling. It can also mix videos based on Chroma-key (green screen) which is handy for small video publishers.

At the same time, there is a 12 channel audio mixing capability that can use HDMI, microphone and standard stereo inputs. I have not used it in a real-world situation, but the two-knob system seem quite efficient and intuitive. It is also possible to control it over USB or MIDI (PC/Mac/iPad), in case you find apps that are compatible with this mixer. There are 2 HDMI outputs used for recording and visual control simultaneously.

Honestly, I would not do all the editing on this, but it could be very handy for real-time effects such as the green screen. For live events, it may be easier to handle if the video setup is simple enough. At around $1000, it could also be used in a semi-pro setting such as professional presentations switches, etc… once you know its capabilities… your imagination is the limit.
