Nintendo Denies They Are Ending The Wii U’s Production

nintendo-wii-u-review-11According to a rumor from yesterday, word on the street is that Nintendo will be halting the production of the Wii U sometime later this year. This made a lot of sense, especially when you consider that the rumors are saying that the upcoming Nintendo NX console will be launched mid-2016, so obviously Nintendo will want to shift production from the Wii U to the NX.

However as it turns out, that is not true. Nintendo has since denied the Nikkei report and according to a spokesperson who told IT Media (via Kotaku), it seems that production of the Wii U will go on as scheduled. According to the spokesperson, “This isn’t an announcement from our company. From the next quarter and thereafter as well, production [of the Wii U] is scheduled to continue.

As Kotaku points out, Nikkei has had a pretty decent track record when it comes to reporting Nintendo-based rumors, so maybe what they say might have some truth to them. Not to mention companies have in the past been known to deny rumors only to have them come true at a later date, but as it stands, officially Nintendo has denied them.

In any case the Nintendo NX is slated for an unveiling later this year, that much is known. There is talk that it could make an appearance at E3, but when exactly the console will launch remains to be seen, so do check back with us in the coming months for the details.
