Don’t Expect A New Leica Q Anytime Soon

leica-qIn 2015, Leica announced the Leica Q. This is a full-frame camera with a fixed lens, so in some ways you might be able to compare the Leica Q to Sony’s RX1R II. Now if you were hoping for a new model that might come with improved specs or features, you will be disappointed to learn that won’t be happening anytime soon.

However this isn’t because the camera is doing badly. In fact it seems to be doing rather well. The reason for the lack of a new model this year is because Leica is apparently choosing to focus on meeting the demand for the existing model, rather than rushing out a newer model for the sake of it.

This is according to an interview the folks at Reddotforum (via Leica Rumors) had with Leica’s Peter Kruschewski. According to Kruschewski when asked about a new Q model, “The Q is now 15 months old, which is actually quite young. In product management, we are naturally thinking already about future concepts and next steps, but it isn’t’ time to talk about replacing the Q any time soon. Right now, we are focusing on keeping up with the continued demand for the camera.”

However he adds that obviously a newer model will be announced in the future, but just not in the near future. “Of course, there is a good chance that there will be a successor in the future, which obviously makes sense with any camera, or really any product for that matter.”
