GM’s Car Sharing Service Now Live In Los Angeles

Maven is a new car sharing service announced by General Motors earlier this year. It enables users to rent a shared car at an hourly rate, so it’s not exactly an Uber rival considering that users have to drive themselves. Maven was first launched in Ann Arbor, Michigan and has since been expanded to other cities across the country. General Motors has now launched Maven in Los Angeles, California.

The service has gone live in Los Angeles merely a couple of weeks after it was launched in San Franciso. It was the ninth market in which Maven was expanded since it was launched back in January this year.

Maven is currently also available in Baltimore, Detriot, Chicago, Boston, New York City, and Washington DC aside from its launch market of Ann Arbor. The cost of renting a shared car using GM’s new service starts at about $8 per hour.

“Los Angeles is a natural fit for Maven because of the city’s incredible appetite for cars,” said Julia Steyn, vice president of Urban Mobility at Maven.

Maven users will have a fleet of about 60 cars to choose from initially. The fleet will be available 24/7 from pick-up locations in Little Tokyo, downtown, and South Park areas of Los Angeles. The fleet will be expanded and more locations will be added down the road.
