Barnes & Noble may not be making its own tablets anymore but it’s still putting out new models in collaboration with other hardware manufacturers like Samsung. FCC filings reveal that a new Nook-branded tablet is in the pipeline and it just might have support for the Google Play Store as well. If that’s true, it’s going to be welcomed by people who purchase these co-branded tablets because Barnes & Noble shut down its own Nook App Store earlier this year in March.

Barnes & Noble decided to stop making its own tablets a couple of years ago after the business wouldn’t stop bleeding money. It saw more value in teaming up with other manufacturers and offering its own software. The strategy appears to be working for the company as it’s still sticking with it.

The FCC filings show that the upcoming Nook-branded tablet is going to be powered by a MediaTek MTM8163 ARM Cortex-153 quadcore processor, it will feature a 3,000mAh battery, a microUSB port, microSD card slot as well as cameras on the front and back. No additional specs have been revealed.

If these are the specs then we can imagine that this is going to be a low-end tablet, the only interesting thing about it might be that it will come with the Google Play Store, but even that’s not confirmed as yet. Barnes & Noble hasn’t commented on this development and it’s unlikely that it will before it’s time to launch this tablet.
