WhatsApp Two-Step Verification Goes Live In Beta

It was reported a few months ago that WhatsApp is finally going to enable two-step verification to provide an additional layer of security to hundreds of millions of users across the globe who use this cross-platform messaging app and it has done that today. The feature has gone live in at least the beta version of this app on Android.

WhatsApp users on Android who have the beta version of the app can head over to account settings right now where they will find the new two-step verification option. Tapping on that will bring up a screen which explains just what this is and it can then be enabled from there.

Users will be required to enter a six-digit passcode which they will be asked to provide every time they try to register their phone number with WhatsApp. They will also need to provide an email address which will come in handy if the passcode ever needs to be reset.

When all of these steps are completed, two-step verification will then be enabled for that WhatsApp user. This will make sure that no one can register WhatsApp with the same phone number without providing the passcode or having access to the email account.
