Technics Grand Class SL-1200GR Turntable Announced

technics-sl-1200gr[CES 2017] Panasonic’s Technics brand is a brand that is extremely popular amongst DJs, especially with the SL-1200 model which many consider to be a classic. This is why it was a nice surprise in 2016 when the company unveiled the SL-1200GAE, which is basically a more modern take on a classic.

This year the company is back with a newer model in the form of the Grand Class SL-1200GR. The idea is that if you thought that last year’s model was too expensive, which was priced at a whopping $4,000, the new model is supposed to be more affordable. Unfortunately according to Gizmodo, that won’t necessarily be the case as the SL-1200GR will be priced around $2,000.

There are of course some differences between this year’s model and last year’s model. One of those differences is the coreless direct drive system where it will feature a single rotor instead of a dual rotor. Other than that, it’s quite hard to tell what the main differences are between the two models.

As TechCrunch points out, if the $2,000 price tag is accurate, it can hardly be described as a good deal especially when a quick search on eBay will yield quite a few classic SL-1200MK2s which are priced under $2,000. In fact some are even retailing for $600, but if you’re all for “new”, then we guess we’ll just have to wait and see when the new SL-1200GRs will be released.
