Barclaycard Testing Out New System That Lets Diners Dine & Dash

Tap to check in to Barclaycard Dine & Dash London, 27th February 2018

There is a reason why fast food is called fast food, because not only is your food served fast, but you pay upfront which means when you’re done you can just up and go. This is versus other dining establishments like restaurants where things can take a little bit longer, especially if you have to wait for the bill to arrive.

However Barclaycard is testing out a new system literally called Dine & Dash that will hopefully make your dining experience faster and more efficient. How it works is simple, when you sit at the table, you’ll tap your phone (you will also need to download the Dine & Dash app) against the device pictured above.

You then order your food and when you’re done, you can just walk out and leave. The app will know when diners have left the establishment, after which the bill will be closed and the diner will be charged accordingly. The app will also allow users to do split bills, tips, and discount codes.

It’s an interesting system, although whether or not it will be widely adopted remains to be seen as it means that restaurants will need to get the device that lets patrons tap their phones on. A trial of the Dine & Dash system will be conducted at St. Martins Lane Prezzo restaurant in Central London starting on the 13th of March, and those who are interested in participating can sign up here.
