Canon Has An 8K Capable EOS R Camera In Their Roadmap

4K video recording is something that we’re starting to see included in many smartphones and cameras, but for videographers who’d like to futureproof themselves or stay ahead of the curve, then Canon might be a brand to watch out for because the company already has plans for an 8K capable EOS R camera in their roadmap.

This is according to an interview that Imaging Resource (via Photo Rumors) did with Canon exec Yoshiyuki Mizoguchi where they discussed the future of the EOS R lineup. One part of the interview touched on the topic of video recording where it was asked how does video fit into the EOS R lineup.

According to Mizoguchi, “Video will play a huge role in the EOS R System for sure. For example, an 8K video capable camera is already in our EOS R-series roadmap.” He also mentions how the company is also working on how to make their RF lenses better for video capture.

“And we are not just looking at video from a camera perspective, we are also working on how to make RF lenses better for video capture as well. For example, the RF 24-105mm F4L was the first L-series lens with Nano USM technology, which contributes to silent and smooth autofocus while shooting video.” There is no word on when this 8K capable EOS R will be launched, but since 8K TVs aren’t exactly commonplace yet, we suppose there isn’t really much of a rush.
