Google’s Fuchsia OS Will Be Capable Of Running Android Apps

Google has been working on a new operating system called Fuchsia for quite some time now. It wasn’t known for sure if it will also have the capability to run Android apps like Chrome OS does. It appears that Google will indeed allow Fuschia to run Android apps. It’s developing a special version of Android Runtime to allow Fuschia to run apps meant for Android devices.

The folks at 9to5mac spotted a new file on the Android Open Source Project’s website which mentions that “These targets are used to build ART for Fuchsia.” This means that a special version of Android Runtime is being developed for this OS.

“They differ from usual Android devices as they do not target specific hardware. They will produce a fuchsia package (.far file),” the file adds. What this probably means is that users will be able to install this version of Android Runtime on any device that’s powered by Fuschia. Google hasn’t offered a lot of details about this operating system so far.

Earlier reports have suggested that this OS will be cross-platform, in that it will be able to run on PCs, tablets, and phones. Some believe that it may eventually supplant Chrome OS and Android.

It would obviously make sense to have support for Android apps on Fuschia from the word go. People would be less hesitant in checking out a new operating system if they’re sure that their favorite apps are available on it.
