Official Westworld Mobile Game Shuts Down

The publisher of the official Westworld mobile game was sued soon after the game was released. Bethesda filed the lawsuit as the game felt way too similar to one of its mobile titles. Bethesda actually called it “a blatant rip-off” of Fallout Shelter. Initial reviews about the game did reflect that the art style, animations, and game design were quite similar to Fallout Shelter. Game developer Behavior Interactive had worked on both titles.

Warner Bros. Interactive, the publisher of the mobile Westworld game, reached an amicable settlement with Bethesda a few weeks ago. As part of the settlement, Bethesda dismissed its claims with prejudice which means that Bethesda can’t bring forward the same allegation in the future.

It’s clear now that this settlement also involved a compromise on WB’s part which was to shut down the game. The detailed terms of the settlement between the two companies were never made public.

Players will now see a message in the game confirming that the title has been shut down. Those who still have the game installed will be able to play it until March 16th, 2019. The notice also informs players that they should use all of their in-game currency before the game is taken offline for good. It can no longer be downloaded from the App Store and the Google Play Store.
