Dell’s New 4K Webcam Will Cost $200

While video conferencing isn’t new in the workplace, the past year and a half have made it even more common where people have been working and studying from home. If this is going to be your new normal for the foreseeable future, it might be a good idea to consider upgrading your webcam and move on from the 720p potato cameras that you’ve been using.

If you have some cash to splash, then you might be interested to learn that Dell has actually launched a brand new webcam in the form of the Dell UltraSharp Webcam. As the name implies, this will provide you with high-resolution 4K video, meaning that at least as far as your video quality is concerned, you’ll look pretty sharp during video calls. The higher resolution should also mean that if you want to stream on Twitch or Facebook, the quality should be pretty good as well.

According to Dell, they wanted to achieve a similar quality to that of DSLR cameras. “Our vision started with benchmarking the image quality of Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) cameras used by professionals and photo enthusiasts. Our design and engineering teams then challenged themselves to develop a webcam that delivers DSLR-like image quality while being intelligent and easy-to-use.”

Aside from its 4K resolution, the camera will also use AI to help out with things like auto-framing, digital zoom, the ability to change the field of view, and also correct the lighting while keeping noise levels low. It sounds promising on paper but it does not come cheap. The webcam is priced at $200 which is more than other regular webcams, but for some it might be worth the investment.
