Rovio has introduced one of the first in-app Android payments for is popular Angry Birds game, dubbed Bad Piggy Bank. The new feature allows users to purchase the Mighty Eagle and other content directly in the game via the Bad Piggy Bank icon. Payments are made via SMS and charged to the user’s next phone bill. The feature is currently only available in Finland’s Elisa mobile network, but Rovio is aiming to bring it to other carriers and countries in the future. This is actually a significant move as one of the major issues for apps on the Android platform was the method of receiving payments for purchases. This system currently looks promising, and only time will tell if this model will be successful. In the meantime, you can have fun with the latest version of Angry Birds Seasons which has been updated to include a Valentine’s Day theme.
