You can’t fault Rovio for milking the Angry Birds franchise. It has been a very long time since this mobile app that lets you hurl angry birds at pigs came out for iOS. It has since been expanded to a wide variety of platforms and countless iterations of the game itself have been released. Hollywood even made an Angry Birds movie, and now it’s making another one. Columbia Pictures has confirmed The Angry Birds Movie 2.

The Angry Birds Movie did quite well on the big screen, pulling in almost $350 million in worldwide box office. Columbia Pictures in collaborating with Rovio Entertainment once again to make The Angry Birds Movie 2.

The new movie is going to once again put flightless birds and scheming green piggs against each other. They’re going to take “their beef to the next level,” according to the company. Sony Pictures is going to distribute the new movie.

It has also been confirmed that The Angry Birds Movie 2 release date has been set on September 20th, 2019. The release of the new movie is going to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the original Angry Birds game.

Thurop Van Orman will be directing The Angry Birds Movie 2 along with John Rice as the co-director. Animation for the film will be handled by Sony Pictures Imageworks.

“We had an incredible experience working with our friends and creative partners at Rovio, and now we – including our team at Sony Pictures Imageworks – are ready to launch into this next adventure,” said Sanford Panitch, president of Columbia Pictures.
