Last year it was confirmed that a new Angry Birds movie was in the works but for those wondering about a release date, Sony and Rovio have recently confirmed that the movie is set for a release on the 20th of September, 2019. This means that fans will have a little over a year left before they’ll be able to check it out.

The sequel is expected to see the return of the original cast which includes Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Bill Hader, Danny McBride, and Peter Dinklage. The movie will also be directed by Thurop Van Orman and co-directed by John Rice, while John Cohen will be returning to produce it.

While the Angry Birds video game franchise hasn’t really been particularly active these days, it seems that there is still a lot of love for it. While video game movies tend to be perceived negatively, the first Angry Birds movie actually went on to break quite a few records. Sony and Rovio have also claimed that it made $352 million at the global box office and opened at number one back in 2016.

We’re not sure if the sequel will be able to recreate the success that the first movie did, although we guess if it is anything like the first movie, then we guess there’s a chance that it might.
