Netflix unveils new iPad app Netflix owners with iPad tablets rejoice – the video streaming service has just announced the launch of a brand new app for the iPad. The new iPad Netflix app will make it easier to discover and instantly watch TV shows and movies over the streaming service. The updated app has been given a facelift, and is touted as a big step forward from the previous version. It offers a more immersive experience, shows twice as many titles than the previous interface, and takes advantage of the tablet’s touchscreen by letting users swipe through rows and rows of tiles featuring larger artwork. The new Netflix app is available now from the Apple App Store and requires an iPad running iOS 5 or higher. Check it out and let us know what you think.

Netflix also announced that folks in Latin America can stream Netflix from their iOS devices, and Netflix Just for Kids is now available on Apple TV. Definitely good news for Netflix iOS users today!

iOS: was once upon a time called iPhone OS, or "operating system", which is the software that provides all the basic device functionality and is the interface between the hardware and applications. iOS was introduced with the iPhone on January 9 2007, and it was originally not intended to be programmable by third parties. Steve Jobs had envisioned that developers could create Web Apps that would run in the browser. This changed less than one year after when the iPhone SDK (software development kit) was introduced in October 2007. Today, hundreds of thousands of apps have been created for this platform. iPhone OS became iOS on June 2010. Interestingly, both iPhone and iOS were former trademarks of Cisco, that Apple now uses under a license.

iPad: the iPad is Apple's tablet computer. While not "invented" by Apple (the newton was arguably a PDA), the iPad has re-ignited the tablet format as it appeared at the right time, with the right hardware and apps. the first iPad was launched on April 2010. It was followed by the iPad 2 in March 2011 and a new iPad (gen 3) in 2012.

Netflix: Netflix Inc is an Internet company that distributes video on-demand. As of 2012, the company operated in the USA, but also in South America, Ireland, Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Finland. Netflix was founded in 1997 in California and is still based in Los Gatos in the Silicon Valley. Of course, Netflix is also provides DVD rentals via regular mail, and that is actually how the company took off before becoming the entity that is said to account for 29% of USA download Internet traffic as of March 2011. Netflix is one of the largest customer of Amazon's AWS infrastructure business.
