BlackBerry announced its BlackBerry Messenger would be making its way to iPhone and Android this summer. According to T-Mobile UK, it looks like we have an official date as they sent out a tweet earlier today announcing June 27 would be when BBM is made available on iOS and Android.

Along with their tweet, T-Mobile UK also teased the upcoming release of BBM on iOS and Android by showing BlackBerry’s messaging software running on a Samsung Galaxy S3. This, of course, would mark the first time BlackBerry has not only considered bringing its BlackBerry Messenger service to additional platforms, but the first time such an offering has actually been implemented as the company, up until now, has kept its BBM service to run only on BlackBerry devices.

Whether or not BlackBerry Messenger can make as big of an impact on iOS and Android as it did on BlackBerry devices is yet to be seen. Considering just how many first-party and third-party chat applications are available on each platform, we have a feeling BlackBerry will have an uphill battle when its BlackBerry Messenger is released in three weeks.
