xbox one japanOver in the US and other markets, games announced for the Xbox One tend to be announced for the PlayStation 4 as well, unless of course it has been specified that it is a console exclusive, such as Titanfall for the Xbox and No Man’s Sky for the PS4. However in Japan, there are some games that should be available on the Xbox One that have been made exclusive to the PS4.

These includes some pretty big titles such as Destiny and more recently, Batman Arkham Knight, which is why it does not come as a surprise to learn that over in Japan, the Xbox One isn’t doing as well as Microsoft is hoping. According to a report from Famitsu, it seems that Microsoft had only managed to sell 23,562 Xbox One units in its first week of availability.

This is compared to the likes of the Xbox 360 which managed 60,000 units during its first two days back when it was launched in 2005.

Sony’s PlayStation 4 managed to take the crown at over 300,000 units sold during its first week of availability, and Nintendo had managed significantly more than Microsoft as well, and that’s saying a lot given the state of the Wii U’s sales at the moment. We’re not sure if sales of the Xbox One will pick up at a later date or if the console is doomed to play second fiddle to the likes of the PlayStation 4 in Japan, but we guess we will have to wait and see.

In the meantime are any of you guys surprised by the somewhat cold reception towards the Xbox One in Japan, and do you think that exclusives like Destiny and Batman Arkham Knight could be the cause of that?
