samsung logo 4Samsung and Facebook have a relationship as Samsung’s virtual reality headset was developed with the folks at Oculus, who is now owned by Facebook, but what else could both companies be up to? Well according to reports from the Korean media, it seems that Facebook’s CEO Mark Zuckerberg has recently made his way to Korea to meet with Samsung’s vice chairman, Lee Jay-Young.

The meeting is said to be about “futuristic business projects”, which some have speculated could be related to mobile devices. A report from last year had suggested that Samsung had proposed a Facebook phone which was summarily rejected by the social network, so could this meeting be their attempt at reviving the device?

Facebook has collaborated with OEMs in the past to create Facebook phones, with their latest effort from last year being the HTC First. The handset was promising, although we guess ultimately people did not see the need, nor did they want Facebook being their primary Android launcher, which led to the phone being something of a flop.

Of course it is possible that Samsung and Facebook could be discussing an entirely different project but given that the contents of the meeting are probably private, we guess we will just have to wait and find out what both companies could be up to, but what do you guys think? Do we really need another Facebook phone?
