diablo 3Reaper of Souls was the last Diablo 3 expansion with Blizzard stating that they wanted to evaluate the game’s future after that. However a rumor from a couple of months ago suggested that a new expansion was in the works and could be unveiled at BlizzCon 2015 which takes place towards the end of the year.

That being said while the expansion may or may not turn out to be true, it has not stopped fans from speculating as to what it could contain. Recently the folks at Diablo: IncGamers had a guest blogger by the name of Nobbie who laid out his speculation as to where the next expansion could take place and what new class we can expect.

Starting with the location, Nobbie speculates that the game could take place on the Skovos Isles, which is one of the four islands in the Twin Seas. Why Skovos, you ask? For starters the area was meant to be part of the original game but was ultimately cut due to their inability to fit in with the rest of the game.

However in Act 5 in Reaper of Souls, references are made to Skovos in which it was revealed that Horadrim were sent there but they never returned, suggesting an evil lurking on the island that might call for a hero. Of course this is just speculation but presumably the developers had probably thought of all this while designing the game and writing the script, so either the reference to Skovos means nothing, or it could hint at new content.

As for a new hero class, Nobbie thinks that we might be looking at an Amazon/Druid/Shaman hybrid. Blizzard had previously stated that they do not plan on revisiting any of the classes from the previous games, so this hybrid might make sense. In any case Nobbie does have a pretty compelling argument, but whether or not this is just fans reading more into the game than they should or if he’s actually onto something remains to be seen, but in the meantime what say you?
