When it comes to lighting in our homes, we don’t really think too much of it. If it starts to get dark, we turn on the lights. Those who are more particular might consider things like the color of the bulb (a warmer yellow/orange versus fluorescent white), bouncing lights off walls to create a softer glow, and so on.

However it seems that due to the use of lighting, it apparently has messed up our internal clock which can sometimes lead to a bad night’s sleep and this is something the company called Saffron is hoping to change. The company which is based in Utah has launched a Kickstarter campaign for a smart LED bulb called Silk.

The idea behind Silk is simple which is that it will be able to continuously adjust itself and its color temperature throughout the day to ensure that you get the best light possible for your internal biological clock. The company has cited several studies and reports which highlights the importance of choosing the right kind of light, some of which such as blue light can be disruptive to sleep.

It is an interesting concept and we have to admit we are curious as to how effective it can be. Now given that this is a smart LED bulb, it means that it won’t come cheap. The company is selling 3 bulbs on its Kickstarter page for $99 as an early bird special, but once that runs out they will start charging $129. If you’d like to learn more or pledge your support, hit up its Kickstarter page for the details.
