When it comes to choosing a smartphone, looks and hardware specs are only one aspect of it. Choosing the platform is just as important because this decides the kind of ecosystem and system features you will have access to. If you plan on investing in paid apps, this is also an important decision as paid apps don’t transfer across platforms.

That being said, during Apple’s recent earnings call, the Cupertino company’s CEO Tim Cook has proudly boasted that based on the latest figures, he has seen a record-breaking number of switchers from the Android platform over to the iPhone. Unfortunately Cook did not provide any specific figures, but this is something he mentions several times during the call.

According to Cook, “The strong iPhone results were broad-based in both developed and emerging markets, and we experienced the highest switcher rate from Android that we’ve ever measured.” If anything, Cook’s statement seems to be in line with the recent figures offered by analytics companies.

The latest figures revealed that iPhone market share in the US has actually gone up by 1.8%, which unsurprisingly was at the expense of other platforms such as Android. That being said, Android is still currently the leading smartphone platform, but at the rate iOS is growing, it is possible that one day they could be eclipsed.
