Lumia_950_1A couple of months ago, an article on WIRED revealed that Microsoft might still be working on a Surface Phone, despite the fact that the Redmond company had already launched both the flagship Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL handsets. Now according to new information by Windows Central, we might have a date to look forward to.

According to a report from Windows Central, they have heard from their sources that Microsoft had apparently cancelled the original Surface Phone. This device was originally slated for a launch in May 2016, but now their sources tell them that a new model is in the works and has been pegged for a possible launch in the second half of 2016.

This Surface Phone will be led by Microsoft engineer Panos Panay and his Surface team. Details of the alleged device remain scarce but Windows Central has heard that Intel could be involved. Prior to this, the previous Surface Phone was also rumored to be powered by Intel, so it looks like that partnership is still ongoing.

In any case it’s best taken with a grain of salt for now, but for those of you who are eager to see what kind of device Microsoft can cook up with in terms of a phone based on the Surface series of Windows devices, we guess you’ll have a bit of waiting to do.
