The Nokia 9 is one of the rumored flagship handsets that Nokia is said to be launching this year. So far we’ve gotten a couple of hints on what we might be able to expect, but now thanks to a report from NPU, additional details of the upcoming handset have been revealed, and one of those details includes Nokia’s OZO audio enhancements.

According to the tip they received, they have been told that the Nokia 9 could feature OZO audio enhancements. For those who are unfamiliar with the OZO Audio technology, Nokia has described it as, “Advanced psychoacoustic technology allows sound to be captured and played back just like it would in real life, transporting you and amplifying your experiences in every direction. Audio Focus mode lets you accentuate the right sounds you need while reducing ambient sounds or background noise.”

It allows users to capture spatial audio with just two microphones, or if the handset is equipped with three or more microphones, they’ll be able to capture spatial 360 audio. Given that Nokia has used the OZO branding for its VR efforts, it doesn’t come as a surprise that this audio technology is also aimed at VR content.

However it also seems to be aimed more at content creators, so not everyone will necessarily have the need for the technology, but we guess it is there should you need it. Take it with a grain of salt for now and since there is no set date on when the Nokia 9 will be announced, we’ll just have to remain patient until then. In the meantime if you have a pair of headphones, you can check out the Nokia OZO Audio technology demo in the video above.
