Earlier this year there were rumors that Google could have a new audio device in the works codenamed “Bisto”. However references to the device were later removed, suggesting that maybe it was an old prototype or that Google might have canned the project, but it seems to have resurfaced again.

In a report from 9to5Google, they have discovered in an APK teardown of the latest beta of the Google app that “Bisto” is back again, and this time additional details have revealed that it could possibly be a pair of smart headphones that runs Google Assistant, thus giving users the ability to command the AI with the headphones on.

This is thanks to a variety of strings discovered in the APK teardown that mentions Bisto along with the tag that reads, ”Your headphones have the Google Assistant. Ask it questions. Tell it to do things. It’s your own personal Google, always ready to help.” There are also references made to spoken notifications, meaning that your headphones will notify you audibly when notifications arrive on your phone.

It also makes reference to certain design elements of the headphones, like how it will sport physical buttons in which users can press to activate Google Assistant. Now there is no word on when these headphones will launch, but the closest thing to a new audio device we’ve heard is a recent rumor that Google could have a smaller Google Home in the works.
