Read receipts are a feature that can be commonly found in messaging apps, such as WhatsApp, iMessage, KakaoTalk, Telegram, LINE, Facebook Messenger, and so on. However for some reason Microsoft has never added the feature to Skype, at least until now in which they are doing so in the latest update to the app.

According to Microsoft, “Read receipts let you see who’s seen your messages at a glance. When someone reads your message, their avatar appears beneath it in Skype chats enabling you to see how far someone has read in the conversation without tapping on every message. The feature is available in 1:1 conversations and group chats with 20 or fewer people. This feature is available just for Insiders, so you can test it with your contacts who are also on the latest Insider build.”

For those who don’t really like the idea of read receipts and the potential tension that it can create, not to worry as you will be able to disable the feature. According to Microsoft, users can choose to disable read receipts, or alternatively they can keep themselves in invisible mode which will also disable read receipts.

This update is applicable across all platforms that Skype is available on, which includes iOS, Android, Windows, Linux, and Mac.
