Underwater Robot Gets Sense Of Touch

Right now, working with underwater robots to carry out cable repairs aren’t exactly fun since one has to grapple with the overwhelming darkness where the robot’s lamp isn’t of much help, in addition to fighting against the current to keep the robot in place as it goes about with its delicate repair work. Future robots could prove to be so much more useful, where they will be equipped with the sense of touch in order to provide a quantum leap when it comes to detecting undersea environment autonomously. Should the robot encounter an obstacle, the strain gauge will be distorted alongside a change in the electrical resistance. This helps the robot identify where it is touching the obstacle precisely, allowing it to get to work in double quick time.
