Anti-suicide lighting

Ani-suicide lighting

It is pretty common for folks in Japan to end their life by jumping in front of trains on a track, amounting up to 17,076 suicides within a month, and this has led East Japan Railways to prevent any more unnecessary hindrances to their already over-crowded line by installing blue lights on selected parts of the platforms. The reason behind this is, blue light supposedly invokes a sense of serenity, making people have second thoughts about ending their life. After all, it must be a pretty tough job to scrape body parts off railway tracks – we wonder just who has the intestinal fortitude to handle thousands of cases in just a month.
