Robovie R3 Is Another Step Forward In Robot Technology

ATR and VStone have teamed up to come up with the Robovie R3, a life-sized robot that is used to research services for the elderly and disabled. The Robovie R3’s ability to move at a relatively fast pace, as well as its ability to overcome small changes in the floor height should be fairly useful if it were to be turned into a helper robot in the future. This cute robot has 11 touch sensors throughout its body; 2 USB cameras acting as eyes; 2 mono microphones for ears; a speaker for its mouth; and an optional laser range finder. The Robovie R3 will be available to research institutions for 3,800,000 Yen ($41,000).
