AT&T Counts 3G MicroCell Usage Against Your Monthly Data Cap
Folks who have recently switched to AT&T’s not-unlimited-anymore data plans and are using the carrier’s 3G MicroCell at home might want to take note, as the carrier is reminding users that despite the device creating a 3G cell site of its own, it’s still considered part of the network, and data usage will count towards your 200MB/2GB data plan. According to AT&T, this is because the data still goes over its network at various stages. A spokesperson was keen to stress that the MicroCell was intended for the voice service, and was only considered a backup for data, especially since many folks already have a Wi-Fi network at home that allows their devices to get online.
