Vlingo InCar App: Call and Text Hands Free

[CTIA 2010] I saw a demo of the Vlingo InCar App for Android that allows users to receive and send text messages without taking their hands off the wheel: you “wake up” the app by saying Vlingo and using voice commands you can select from 4 different options; Call, Text, Navigate, or Safereader (hear incoming text messages or emails) – see picture on the right. You need a bluetooth or a wired headset to operate the app on your Android phone. This application is similar to StartTalking, an application that launched last week at Mobilize, except that Vlingo may not shut down the phone screen to prevent users to look at it. Check out the video demo to see how it works in the real world.

Vlingo is available now from the Android Market for free and is compatible with Android 2.1, and above. Vlingo InCar beta is exclusively available on the Sprint Now Network and is optimized for the HTC Evo and other Android 2.2 devices.
