Avago offers low powered optical sensors

Avago Technologies has just announced a couple of new low-power optical sensors that will target action in wireless mice. Known as the ADNS-2080 and ADNS-3000, these two LED-based sensors will leverage an advanced low-power architecture and automatic power management modes in order to deliver more than a year of battery life derived from a solitary AA battery whenever you’re using a wireless mouse equipped with either sensor. Of course, we’re not talking about 24/7 usage of such mice while eking out such performance, but within reasonable boundaries. That’s certainly an improvement considering the kind of performance the ADNS-2080 and ADNS-3000 optical sensors deliver, including precise, high-speed tracking, high-speed motion detection of up to 30 inches per second (ips) and 20g acceleration detection. We do hope to see a new generation of longer lasting wireless mice in the market soon.
