NFC-based Google mobile payments to arrive this year?

Aside from Android 2.3 Gingerbread, one of the major features of Google’s Nexus S phone that sets it apart from the rest of the pack is its built-in NFC chip, enabling Near Field Communication. The concept will be fairly simple, allowing customers to pay for goods and services by waving their Android-powered phone against a register and checkout. Will Google’s Nexus S and rumored NFC-based payment system usher in a new era of mobile payments for the masses?
