AFFETTO robot baby feels scary

You might have heard of the uncanny valley, which is a sense of revulsion that humans feel when encountering a lifelike robot that doesn’t quite get the whole “human” thing right. Now the goal of Osaka University’s AFFETTO was to create a robot modeled after a young child that is able to produce realistic facial expressions in order to endear it to the human caregiver, but we must admit that it probably strays into uncanny valley territory. It’s certainly an impressive achievement, but we’d probably freak out if we had a few of these crawling around the house. What do you think? Check out a video of it in action after the jump.
