Buffalo MiniStation

Buffalo MiniStation

The VCR is pretty much dead at this point in time, and manufacturers are now building TVs with the ability to record directly onto externally hard disks. The invention of such technology has led to the appearance of unsightly cables that clutter up your TV cabinet or shelf. Well, Buffalo has come up with a solution to the problem. Called the MiniStation, it is basically an external hard disk that has a mounting bracket that you can affix to the back of your TV where the (usually unused) wall-mounting screw holes are. This means you can have the benefits of hard disk recording without any visible cables around your television. You could probably do the same thing by creating your own mounting brackets that can hold a hard disk, but it’s good to know that such products do exist. Anyway the MiniStation will be on sale this month in Japan for about $113 (500 GB).
