Vol speaker combines speaker and volume knob into one

Devices these days are starting to head towards a more minimalist sort of design, expounding on the “less is more” phrase. Well we can’t complain, since the “less is more” philosophy usually ends up as less clutter in our houses and our desks, so why should this Vol speaker, designed by Hiranao Tsuboi be any different?

If you’re wondering why it looks so familiar, it’s because you may have come across Griffin’s PowerMate, except that the key difference between Vol and PowerMate, is that Vol has a built in speaker, while the Griffin PowerMate acts more like a controller. Unfortunately, the other key difference between the PowerMate and Vol, is that PowerMate can be bought, while the Vol speaker looks to be a one-off custom job for Kent of British American Tobacco.

It measures 55 millimeters (2.2 inches) in diameter and 37 millimeters (1.4 inches) in height, the device is said to be made out of aluminum and features no buttons, but rather relies on intuitive use. The speaker can be turned on/off by turning the dial, and volume can be adjusted the same way as well.

It’s pretty sleek looking, we would love to have one in every room, heck, given its size, we’d gladly have several around the room. Perhaps one of the bigger manufacturers will pick up on the design and mass produce it, but for now, we’ll have to make do with pictures.
