Phantom v1610 camera shoots at 1 million FPS

While we have high-speed X-ray cameras that can capture images at up to 4.5 million frames per second, there are folks outside of the scientific community that want to make use of high-speed cameras purposes other than studying molecules. Enter Vision Research’s new Phantom v1610 high-speed video camera.

The camera is capable of capturing high-speed video at up to 1 million frames per second but as you can imagine, it sacrifices quality for speed – a lot of quality. The video shot at 1 million FPS will be only 128 x 16 pixels in size. Great for animated GIFs I suppose? Fortunately you can choose to shoot at a more reasonable resolution of 1280 x 800 at up to 16,000 frames per second – which should be good enough for some high quality slow-motion footage.

No word on pricing or date of availability, but we’re pretty sure a camera of this caliber won’t be too cheap. More specs and details.
