Sony Tablet S is Sony S1

It seems that the Sony S1 tablet that was spotted some time ago has finally been given its official moniker – which is the Sony Tablet S. Touted to arrive in the market sometime in the first fortnight of September, the Tablet S is tipped to arrive with a 9.4″ multi-touch display at 1,280 x 768 resolution. In order to make sure the Tablet S remains up to par with the rest of the competition, it will be pre-loaded with Android 3.1 Honeycomb right out of the box – with the promise of Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich the moment that version is released to the market.

It would be interesting to see just how the Sony Tablet S will fare when it finally arrives, and I do wonder how many people would purchase this to use it as a multi-purpose remote control at home, thanks to it being able to communicate with other devices connected to a particular network, or via the built-in IR blaster.

When it comes to the question of cameras, the Sony Tablet S will sport a couple of these – with a 3.0-megapixel shooter in front, while a 5.0-megapixel shooter resides at the back. Not only that, Sony’s preinstalled software will deliver PlayStation Certified gaming in addition to support for other entertainment options – book services, music and movies.
