iPads used for voting in Oregon

So the iPad can be used for gaming, it can be used for movies and music, it can be used for medical purposes and it can be used for education, but now it looks like the residents of Oregon will be able to cast their votes for a special election, to nominate candidates to replace David Wu, via the iPad.

This will be a leap forward as voters in Oregon have previously been casting their ballots via post since 2000, and now county election officials are going about with their iPads and portable printers to places such as parks, nursing homes and community centers to help increase the number of votes.

To be clear, votes will not actually be cast via the iPad, but instead the voting app will send the choices to the portable printer, where the ballots will then be printed out and then mailed back to the state. This is a pilot program which is being tested in five counties in Oregon, where Apple has donated five iPads and with the state spending $75,000 on the software development.
