AOL Instant Messenger is not shutting down

AIM iconEarlier this week there were rumors about AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) shutting down due to AOL getting rid of a whole bunch of workers and leaving only the support staff behind. Well, it looks like those rumors aren’t true. According to Mashable and Computerworld who reached out to AOL for clarification – the company isn’t killing off AIM – at least not in the near future. AOL has announced that it plans to continue supporting and evolving the instant messenger service. But with only the support staff left running the AIM ship, it makes you wonder how AOL is going to do that. By hiring third party developers? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.
