AT&T has even gone as far as to send out messages to warn their customers that if they do not upgrade to a 3G phone, they might not be able to make or receive calls, and could “experience degradation of wireless services in certain areas”. Of course this will not be a sudden change and neither will AT&T pull the plug all at once, but 2G users should expect to see the 2G network eventually get phased out in due time. However with smartphones these days coming in at all sorts of price levels, we’re pretty sure that 2G users will be able to find themselves a 3G capable device at a price suited to their budget.
