Samsung surpasses Nokia as world’s top handset seller

The day has finally come for Samsung to conquer the vast handset empire. According to the research firm Strategy Analytics, the South Korean tech tycoon has, for the first time, surpassed Nokia as the world’s top handset maker in Q1 this year. This ends the 14-year rule of the Finnish mobile manufacturer. Strategy Analytics says that Samsung was able to sell 93.5 million handsets in the first quarter alone – that’s approximately 25.4 percent of the worldwide mobile phone market.

Apparently Nokia came in short, taking the 22.5 percent of the overall mobile phone sales with just 82.7 million phones sold in Q1. Almighty Apple looks small when compared to both titans with only 9.5 percent. It will be more interesting when the Samsung Galaxy S III will arrive next month. So, will Samsung rule the market like Nokia? 15 years perhaps?
