Octa’s Vacuum Dock + WhaleTail accessory for tablets is an interesting idea

One of the gripes that many users had about the new iPad is its heaviness. Granted it’s not super heavy but it is noticeably heavier than its predecessor, the iPad 2, thus making it slightly more uncomfortable to carry around or to be used as a dedicated e-reader device. While we’re sure that there are many who don’t mind its heft, there’s always room for improvement which is what Kevin Trotsky and his girlfriend decided to set out to do. Together they launched a startup called Octa in the end of 2010 and after a year’s worth of work and research and brainstorming, they have come up with the Vacuum Dock + WhaleTail accessory.

As pictured above, the Vacuum Dock + WhaleTail allows iPad users (and presumably owners of other tablets) a new way to hold their devices while they surf or read. The “tail” portion not only acts as a groove for users to hook their fingers through, but will also double as a stand that will prop the tablet up. While we’ve yet to try the accessory out for ourselves, it appears to be a unique design and is available for purchase via its website for $50.
