Tesla working on a sedan that will rival the BMW 3-series?

Tesla Motors has just rolled its Model S sedans. Now, the Silicon Valley-based electric car manufacturer is upping the ante by revealing its next car. In an interview with AutoCar, Tesla Chief Designer Franz von Holzhausen confirmed that a third model line is underway, saying that the first units could launch as early as 2015. Franz von Holzhausen added that the target price of the new entry-level car will be around $30,000. When asked about its design, the design chief admitted that it will have a more distinctive styling compared to its conventional Model S sedan.

AutoCar notes that Tesla’s third-generation electric sedan could rival the BMW 3-series. “The third model will continue to drive down the price point as fast as possible. We will become more experimental as we develop as a brand,” he said. So far, Tesla has been succeeding at a time where other electric car companies have struggled and failed. Tesla Motors has reportedly amassed over 10,000 $5,000 deposits for the Model S sedan. The Model S electric sedan was launched in June this year. The young car maker previously said that it will build 5,000 Model S cars by the end of this year.
