Motorola has no plans to add bootloader unlocking support for older devices

Not too long ago we reported that after promising their customers for so long, Motorola has finally rolled out an online bootloader unlocking tool on its website. As we noted at its time of launch, only a handful of handsets were supported, such as the recently launched Motorola Photon Q 4G LTE, the developer version of the RAZR and the Xoom tablets. Naturally we assumed that support for other Motorola devices, like the Droid Bionic, Droid 3, Droid RAZR and RAZR MAXX and etc. would be added eventually, but in a recent tweet by Motorola, it looks like we are in for a disappointment.

In response to a question asked whether support would be added for older Motorola devices like the Droid 3, Bionic, DX2 and etc., Motorola responded by saying that it was not currently in the plan. There was no word on whether the RAZR or RAZR MAXX will be getting the same treatment, but unless it appears on the bootloader website, we’ll take it as a no for now. However this is by no means definite as plans do change, but as it stands, owners of older Motorola devices are simply out of luck.
