Nikon 1 J3 and S1 Cameras Announced

[CES 2013] If you’re looking forward to Nikon announcing new models for its lineup of mirrorless camera systems, you might recall that back in December 2012 we reported that the company would be unveiling the Nikon 1 J3 and Nikon 1 S1 at CES, and sure enough they did. Both cameras are expected to be made available come February 2013 with the Nikon 1 J3 priced at $599.95 with the inclusion of a 10-30mm lens, while the Nikon 1 S1 will be priced at $499.95 and will come with a 11-27.5mm lens which will offer slightly wider angles, and both models are expected to come in a variety of different colors to top it off.

So what will photographers be getting for their hard earned money? For starters the J3 will be the higher-end model of the two. It will sport a 14.2MP CX-format CMOS sensor, while the S1 will feature a 10.1MP CX-format CMOS sensor. Both cameras however will be powered by Nikon’s EXPEED 3A processor. Both cameras will also go up to ISO settings of 1600, but the J3 will start off with 160 while the S1 will start with 100 as its lowest setting. The cameras will also feature Nikon’s Advanced Hybrid Autofocus system with a 73-point array, and with Nikon boasting that the cameras will feature shutter release times at around 80ms.

Other features of the Nikon 1 J3 and S1 include Full HD video capture, shooting modes such as Auto, Advanced Movie, Motion Snapshot, Creative Mode and etc. These cameras will also be compatible with Nikon’s WU-1b Wireless Mobile Adapter, allowing users to transfer photos captured on the camera to mobile devices such as smartphones or tablets, which can then be uploaded and shared on social networking websites. In fact when paired with the Wireless Mobile Adapter Utility app for Android and iOS, these devices can act as a remote shutter via their smartphones or tablets.
